Do You Have What It Takes?

Historic Banning Mills is home to the world’s tallest free-standing climbing wall! And we are just a short drive from Atlanta, Georgia.

Certified by Guinness World Records, our climbing wall is 140 feet tall and is part of our Adventure Tower. At 14 stories high, our wall includes nine climbing lanes, two rappel walls (up to 95 ft. high), and four overhangs (including a traversing overhang and chimney). Whether you are a beginner or an expert, our unique and dynamic routes are enjoyed by all. And, as you climb your way to the top, you can enjoy the breathtaking views of Snake Creek Gorge! Due to the height of our climbing wall, all climbs are staff-assisted. Participants must be at least 8 years old, and weigh a minimum of 60lbs (maximum of 285lbs).

1 Hour Climb $35 per person*

1 1/2 Hour Climb $40 per person*

2 Hour Climb $45 per person*

*A minimum of two climbers is required to open the tallest freestanding climbing wall in the world. The wall can be done by itself or added on to other adventure treks.

Reservations are required for the climbing wall and must be made by phone.

The wall was climbed by Kalib Robertson, an experienced climber, in approximately 12 minutes on 9 December 2011.

CLIMBING WALL FAQs

What should I wear while climbing?

Closed-toed shoes are a requirement.

  • This means sneakers or boots with a full heel/back. No crocs, sandals, or 5-toed shoes allowed. People with improper footwear will not be allowed to go on tour and no refunds will be given.

Dress appropriately for the weather.

  • Comfortable clothes are recommended. We climb rain or shine so wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little wet or sweaty. You will be wearing a harness that goes around your waist and thighs so we recommend wearing clothes that will cover those areas. Short shorts and tube tops are not recommended. Please wear shorts under dresses or skirts. Wear layers in cold weather.

Secure long hair.

  • You don’t want hair to get tangled in the equipment. Helmets are required, so a low ponytail, bun, or braid is the most comfortable. It is permitted to wear thin bandanas, beanies, or other head coverings under your helmet.

Glasses and sunglasses can be worn.

  • If you plan on taking them off during the tour, we recommend a strap. They may break if you put them in your pocket.

Do not wear loose articles of clothing, dangling jewelry, or large hoop earrings.

How safe is your climbing wall?

We have years of experience, and our guides are all CPR, Wilderness First Aid, and High Ropes Rescue trained. We meet or exceed all ACCT and PRCA guidelines. Our course is constantly checked and rechecked as well as inspected by an outside ACCT certified inspector.

Learn more about our safety standards.

Do I need any experience?

No. We have different levels and heights for all skill levels.

Are there any health conditions that would exclude me from participating?

Climbing is not for those with recent surgeries, joint or bone injuries, heart conditions, pregnant women (beyond the first trimester), moderate to severe muscular-skeletal problems or severe arthritis. This list is not complete and any guest with medical problems should notify the staff and consult their own MD for participation recommendations. If you require fast-acting medication (like epinephrine), bring the medication with you on the tour and make your guide aware of your condition prior to departure.

Do I need to be in good shape?

We have options from beginner (moderate) to expert (strenuous). Climbers need to have full use and range of motion of both upper and lower extremities.

What if I “chicken out?”

This is an aerial adventure designed to help confront and overcome fears while providing thrills and fun. Please consider what this activity is and how you/your child might react to heights and challenges before purchasing a ticket.

Should you discover that a course is too much for you, you may opt out of completing it. However, please keep in mind that by booking your course you took the slot of another paying guest. The guides scheduled for your course still must be paid. As such, you will still be charged for a 1 hour climb plus a credit card processing fee. Thanks for your understanding of our “no-go” policy.

Is water provided?

Yes. We have water points at the tower. Be prepared to go over an hour without water.

Is there a place to view friends and family that are on the course?

Yes. There are areas to view your group as they climb. Spectators must stay in the designated areas and may not climb the stairs of the tower to view their group.

Do I have to accompany my child on the tour?

Children can go unaccompanied as long as they are at least 8 years old and at least 60 lbs.

All participants must have a signed waiver. Guardians must fill one out for all minors under 18.
