Georgia Mountain Falconry Apprentice Academy
March 6-8, 2026
We are honored to host the Georgia Mountain Falconry Apprentice Academy!
This opportunity is open to all; no prior experience is necessary. The academy will be held March 6 - 8, 2026.
Join us at Historic Banning Mills for a hands-on, immersive introduction to the ancient art of falconry! The Georgia Mountain Falconry Apprentice Academy brings together four Master Class falconers—including former Auburn University eagle trainer Roy Crowe—to guide students through a comprehensive three-day learning experience.
Students will receive a course notebook filled with detailed notes, worksheets, and supplemental materials, along with opportunities to win falconry equipment giveaways each day.
One of the highlights of this special session: all attendees are invited to join the team for a Sunday afternoon hawking experience on Banning Mills property, offering a rare chance to observe trained birds in the field with professional falconers.
Georgia Resident Guarantee
If you are a Georgia resident, complete the Academy, and take the Georgia Falconry Exam within 30 days but do not achieve the required score of 84 or higher, your next Academy is free.
Pricing & Registration
Tuition: $425 per participant
Deposit: A $50 nonrefundable deposit and completed registration form are required to hold your spot. Enrollment is limited.
- After submitting the registration form, you will be sent payment instructions. Payments are accepted via Zelle or by mailing a check.
- Remaining balance of $375 is due by February 20, 2026.
Lodging:
Lodging at Historic Banning Mills is not included in the course fee; however, attendees receive a special discounted rate that includes breakfast each morning and lunch and dinner on Saturday. When booking your room, simply mention that you are with the Georgia Mountain Falconry Apprentice Academy.

Discover the Hidden Wonders of Snake Creek Gorge!
Join us for an immersive Nature Walk & Talk led by Toby Saunders, MS Biology, a professor at The University of West Georgia. This two-hour guided trek will take you through the stunning trails of Snake Creek Gorge, a landscape that feels as if you've stepped into the Appalachian Mountains—yet, remarkably, you haven’t left the foothills of Georgia’s Piedmont.
As we explore this unique and mysterious ecosystem, you’ll learn about the fascinating plant life of Banning Mills, including species typically found in the Blue Ridge region. The terrain and plant communities create a unique environment, making this hike an unforgettable experience for nature lovers and curious minds alike.
After the hike, enjoy a delicious lunch at the Main Lodge. The menu can be found below.

Trail Difficulty:
This moderate trail follows Snake Creek, featuring gentle hills, rocky paths, and occasional steeper sections. Expect to navigate over roots and uneven terrain—sturdy footwear is recommended!

Strawberry and Goat Cheese Chicken: Tender chicken breast seasoned to perfection, oven baked, and topped with a delightful combination of creamy goat cheese, fresh strawberries, and a balsamic reduction.
Roasted Red Potatoes: Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, our roasted red potatoes are seasoned with aromatic herbs and spices, creating a savory side dish that perfectly complements.
Green Bean Almondine: Crisp and vibrant green beans sautéed and tossed with toasted almonds for a delightful crunch. Finished with a hint of garlic and lemon squeeze.
Fresh Bread Roll: Soft and freshly baked, our bread rolls are the perfect accompaniment to any meal.
Cannolis: Indulge in the sweet and creamy goodness of our chef made Sicilian cannolis. Crisp pastry shells filled with smooth, sweet ricotta cheese and hints of vanilla, dusted with powdered sugar and chocolate chips.
